Flash foward to 2010, the Inhibit crew have been responsible for touring countless international artists as well as being behind Beat Mash Wednesdays @ Bar Open and the The Cube Fridays @ Shape. And as we move into the new decade there are no signs of things slowing down!! So put on your party hats and get ready for one hellava birthday bash!!

In 2001, two friends sharing a common passion for electronic music joined forces to develop their take on the sound of Drum & Bass. After finishing school they both began working in the nightclub industry and were regularly exposed to the cream of international DJ’s and producers passing through Auckland’s Fu Bar. With access to this constant source of inspiration at their disposal, the pair began honing their skills behind the wheels of steel as well as at home in the studio, and over the next 7 years they began forging their own place in the New Zealand, and global Drum & Bass DJ & Production scene.

In 2008, things took a tragic turn for the worse, with the passing of one half of the duo, Jonny Beck. In his best friends name and honor, Ollie buried himself away and turned to the one thing that could help him mourn and recover from the loss of his best friend. Music. The end result of his loss, his need to honor his friend’s memory, and his passion is now truly undeniable. The name CERN has quickly become a globally recognized entity within the world of D&B. Having released tracks on many of the scenes leading labels including the UK’s Renegade Hardware, Critical, Cyanide Recordings and Samurai Music, collaborations soon arose with names like Loxy, Logistics, Sabre, Phace & Misanthrop, and close friends Bulletproof, Teknik and Concord Dawn. He soon began gaining attention from some of the scenes leading players with the Cern sound being described by the legendary Virus co-founder Ed Rush as ” the kind of music that you know u can listen to 2-3 years down the track and it still sounds good.” Cern’s tunes have been getting heavy support from the linkes of Teebee & dBridge to Logistics & Gridlok, while still getting play elsewhere, receiving support from legendary Techno DJ/Producer Laurent Garnier.

It’s fair to say that Ollie Cern has transgressed the realm of one time bedroom producer, to one of pure world-class stature. Following his 2009 debut “Mania EP” on Concord Dawns “Uprising” imprint, It came as no surprise that His next move was to produce the very first full length Cern LP. “Terminus” is an album that encapsulates the Cern sound wholeheartedly. Originally produced exclusively for the NZ market on “Uprising”, “Terminus” soon caught the attention of US heavyweight Gridlok and is now destined for joint release on his “Project51” imprint. Set for release mid 2010, When asked of the concept behind the album, Ollie describes “Terminus” as “an album that takes its roots from Techstep and funk driven D&B,” going on to say “the album reflects the inspiration gained from his long standing admiration for producers like Ed Rush & Optical, Matrix, Konflict and Source Direct”, incorporating the sound they represented at a time, in his opinion, when Drum & Bass was “at its peak”.

With an album release tour in preparation for Australia and New Zealand during the second half of 2010, and plans to re-locate to Europe early in 2011, Ollie is looking forward to unveiling his new sound, new vibe and personal endeavors worldwide. Terminus is a world-class album, seamlessly crafted by a world-class producer. Moments in time captured in musical form. A true testament to his ability as a musician and a first had insight into one of New Zealand’s finest dance music producers.

Fierce has been at the forefront of the drum & bass scene since the mid 1990s, starting with his early excursions at No U-Turn from the tender age of 16 to his involvement in some of the scene’s seminal musical moments such as ‘Alien Girl’, ‘Locust’, ‘The End’ and ‘Tightrope’ on prestigious labels including Prototype, Metro, Virus, Ram, BC, DSCi4, DNAudio and 31 Records.

As well as bringing his undoubted skills to the table on the production front, Fierce has long been known as one of the most exciting and energetic DJs around, widely respected by both his peers and drum & bass fans alike. Still harbouring an insatiable love for dubplates and vinyl ahead of MP3s and CDs, Fierce really is a DJs’ DJ, bringing sounds from across the spectrum and uniquely fusing tracks together in the mix to create a new and fresh sound every time.

Fierce enters 2010 representing his own Quarantine label, working alongside producers including Break, Optiv, D-Bridge, Nico, Survival, Noisia, Silent Witness and RymeTyme and continuing to hone the minimal, rolling sound the label has made its own. With two acclaimed albums, ‘Dominion’ (2007) and ‘Zenith’ (2008) and a string of must have singles behind them, just keep listening….

NERO has become a big name in both the Drum and Bass and Dubstep scenes, often fusing both styles of music in their DJ sets. Starting there career of in Drum n Bass on DJ SS’s prestigious Formation Records Label in 2004. Since then Dan and Joe’s tracks have caused quite a stir, gaining huge momentum from support from DJs like Andy C, Grooverider and Friction, as well as consistent radio airplay on all the big shows in the UK scene.

In June 2006 Nero released their acclaimed EP, “Requiem EP” on Formation Records. Consisting of four top tracks, it was received with a huge response with High Contrast even included the track ‘Bitch I’m Gone’ in his mix for the legendary Fabric Live series!
2009 saw Nero’s first release on iconic label Breakbeat Kaos. The killer track ‘Act Like You Know’, backed with Sound in Motion and a dubstep edit of the title track, has been hitting dancefloors across the world for the last year and was picked up by Fresh and Adam F.

Onto Dubstep…. Nero’s debut dubstep release, ‘This Way’, became one of the biggest dubstep tunes of 2008 and is still selling big units across the world. Since then, Nero’s consistent releases have made them one of the most talked about acts in dubstep. Their remix of the Streets’ tune ‘Blinded by the Lights’ was a massive radio hit as well as a dancefloor smasher played by DJ’s from Chase and Status and Skream to Tiesto and Diplo. More recently Nero have remixed La Roux and Deadmau5 to devastating effect.

The boy’s DJing career has also taken off, with an impressive back catalogue which includes supporting Deadmau5, Chase & Status and Zane Lowe on their UK tours.

Nero have recently signed exclusively to Chase & Status’ label MTA and are currently working on their debut album… watch this space!

Yes people you read correctly, BAD ROBOT [Phetsta & Rregula] are coming together for their annual reunion set at THE CUBE. This is a night you definatly dont want to miss, as they are set do deliver one of their legendary and entertaining live performances in a very special 2 hour set!!

Bad Robot was formed in 2003 when Phetsta and Rregula combined their creative talents to amass a string of well received digital and 12” releases on labels including Black Sun Empire, Habit Recordings, Kinematic320, Technique, Incite and Renegade Hardware.

After nearly three years together as Bad Robot both Phetsta and Rregula had the production skills and contacts to continue releasing music as solo artists.

Phetsta went on to sign an exclusive deal with Technique Recordings delivering the stunning Congo EP, aswell as collaborting with Shockone on some of the biggest tunes to come out of Australia, keep an eye out for the Prism EP set to drop later in the year!

Meanwhile, Rregula has had releases on labels such as DSCI4, Citrus, Disturbed and Shadybrain Recordings as well as working alongside Germany’s Dementia and touring throughout Europe, North America and Australia with no signs of things slowing down!
